Dr. Brett Young, DVM

Dr. Brett Young
I am a native of Charlotte and a graduate of UNC Chapel Hill and Royal Veterinary College, London, UK. I have been practicing in the Asheville area since 2003. In February of 2009, I joined WNC Veterinary Hospital. I enjoy Internal Medicine, Surgery, and Ultrasonography.
I have an amazing wife and two young children.
I also have two quirky rescue dogs; Buddy and Docky.
In my spare time I enjoy hiking, biking and running. I love the outdoors and love to take time with my family to go to the lake with my boat.

Dr. Joe Nesbitt, DVM

Dr.Joe Nesbitt
I am a native of western North Carolina. I graduated from North Carolina State University in 1969 and from the University of Georgia in 1973.
I have a special interest in Veterinary Dentistry. I feel that attention to your special friend in this area will add quality of life and a more meaningful relationship for each of you. I consider it a calling and a privilege to be allowed to practice Veterinary Medicine in this beautiful area.
I have a beautiful wife, Jean, and six amazing granddaughters. I also have a wonderful Westie named Faith.


Dr. Al Hughes, DVM

I grew up in central Georgia and graduated from the University of Georgia's College of Veterinary Medicine in 1968. I relocated to Western North Carolina and become a partner in WNC Veterinary Hospital in 1981. I enjoy my work and while I am not specialized in any specific area of Veterinary Medicine I particularly enjoy Internal Medicine, Ophthalmology, and Ultrasonography.
I am married to my "Sweetheart," Jane. Between us, we have five children and nine grandchildren. When not working or enjoying time with my family, I enjoy several outdoor activities including golf. I'm addicted to golf but am not a very good golfer.


Karen, Office Manager

I am a lifetime resident of Western North Carolina. I began working at WNC Veterinary Hospital quickly after graduating from Asheville-Buncombe Technical College in 1989. I worked in the hospital as a receptionist until the birth of my first child in 1998. I now handle payroll, accounts payable, and staff relations mostly from my home.
I have two wonderful children, as well as, a loving and understanding husband.
We happily share our home with two dalmatians, one border collie, a cattle dog mix, a cat, a turtle and two horses.


Jeanie, Lead Receptionist

I live in Fletcher with my husband, Russ,and our dog, Baby. I have over thirty years of experience in customer service. My love for animals brought me to WNC Veterinary Hospital in December of 2002.
Outside of the office, I am very family oriented and love to spend time with my grandchildren. My favorite pastime is spending weekends with Russ and Baby at our cabin in Roanoke, VA. I also enjoys working in the yard and planting flowers.

Ashley, Veterinary Assistant

I am originally from Tulsa, OK. But most of my family and I have lived in Asheville and surrounding areas since 1988. I am a country girl at heart who loves to sing, dance, and play the piano. I have been at WNC Veterinary Hospital since April of 2004. However, since animals throw you curve balls I still learn new things every day.
I have an amazing daughter, Evie. As well as, a dog, Chance, a spunky Pomeranian-mixed breed and a rescue dog, Sophie, who brings me joy everyday!!


Stefeni, Veterinary Assistant

I joined WNC Veterinary Hospital in Fall of 2007. I have been a veterinary assistant since 1997 and have worked in several clinics in both North and South Carolina. I particularly enjoy surgery and have extensive experience as a surgery assistant.
I currently have two sweet cats, Dega and Houdini.
In my spare time I enjoy gardening and spending time with friends and family.


Beth G, Lead Technician, Registered Veterinary Technician

I began working in veterinary medicine after I graduated from AB Tech's Veterinary Technology program in 2006. I joined WNC Veterinary Hospital in October 2009. On top of being an RVT, I am also a CPhT (Certified Pharmacy Technician). I am currently pursuing my specialty in Clinical Practices for canine/feline.
I live in Hendersonville with my husband, James and daughter, Adeline. Together we have six dogs (Jackson, Winnie, Liam, Mya, Soret, and Patches) and 3 cats (Sebastian, Ruby, and Jacy).
In my spare time I am kept very busy as the information officer for the North Carolina Association of Veterinary Technicians but I also enjoy reading and spending time with my family.

Ruth, Registered Veterinary Technician

I joined WNC Veterinary Hospital as a part time employee shortly before graduating from AB Tech in Veterinary Technology, in February of 2010. Prior to that, I was a teacher both in Florida and here in Henderson County for more than 30 years before retiring.
I have a son, Brian, and daughter-in-law, Emily, that live in Florida. I share my home with a Corgi mix, Skippy; two cats, Camille and Spirit; and a Peach-faced Lovebird, Chico.
In my free time I have a variety of interests including: birding, butterflying, mountain biking, water aerobics, the flute, and participating in the handbell and Magdalen choirs at my church.

Beth M, Receptionist

Beth M
I moved to Asheville from a small town in South Carolina. Having 12 years of experience as a receptionist, I settled right in at WNC Veterinary Hospital in May 2010.
I live in North Asheville with my boyfriend. We have three rescue dogs: Sassy, Scooter, and Ace. As well as a Parakeet.
In my spare time I enjoy taking the dogs to Pisgah Forest, as well as, gardening and planting flowers.
